Skryne Continue Winning Ways
Skryne 1-10 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 0-10
A League Division 1 – Round 6
Skryne made it six wins from six games with this hard earned victory over Donaghamore Ashbourne in the A League Div. 1 in Skryne this evening.(Thursday).
Played in misty rain all through on a very heavy pitch after the recent bad spell of weather it was difficult for either side to play good football. Despite this it was a very entertaining game with both sides playing as if their lives depended on the result. With neither side giving an inch Referee Gerry McGivney had to dish out a number of cards in order to make sure it didn’t get out of hand. This resulted in both teams giving away quite a number of frees with Skryne being particularly guilty in the second half when all of Donaghamore Ashbourne’s scores came from placed balls. Overall Don/Ash scored eight of their ten points from frees while Skryne were successful from five frees.
Skryne played with the benefit of a tricky crossfield breeze in the first half and led by 0-6 to 0-4 at the break.

Donaghamore Ashbourne quickly levelled the scores at the beginning of the second half when they played towards the Road end. It was point for point from then to the end of the game but the crucial score came Skryne’s way with about ten minutes to go when Brian Davis got on the end of a three man move to fist the ball to the Don/Ash net. This proved to be the winning margin at the end of the match with the Blues just about deserving to take the spoils of an evenly contested game.
