Skryne U14B lost out to Ratoath on Wednesday evening by 2-12 to 1-9 in Dunshaughlin. The rain stayed away but conditions were very greasy. Both teams must be complimented in putting on a very entertaining game of football in such slippery conditions.
Ratoath opened the scoring with an early point but Skryne defended brilliantly to keep Ratoath to 6 points at half time while Skryne scored 5 points at the other end. Skryne had more of the possession in the first half and probably should have led. The game was that tight that the referee stated at half time that there had been no instructions to play extra time in the event of a draw.
Ratoath increased the pace in the second half and Skryne began to struggle to get the ball up to the forwards. It was obvious that whoever got a goal would probably win. Unfortunately for Skryne, Ratoath got the vital goal to put some daylight between the teams midway through the second half. Ratoath tacked on a couple of points and then scored a second goal.
Skryne never stopped trying and scored 1-3 in the last 10 minutes. Indeed a free kicked across the goals could have been knocked to the net with 5 minutes to go but both teams watch it go wide of the post.
Skryne team lined out as follows, S Dowling, D Hawes, A Moore, S Byrne, T Kelly, D Carroll(0-4), T Carpenter, M Long(captain), C Twoomey, D Bissett, C Doherty(0-2), J Jordan, E Quinn(1-2), L Thorpe, M Swan(0-1), E O’Brien, C O’Dowd, J Connon, A Gaynor.
