Skryne Defeat Simonstown
Simonstown Gaels 0-07 Skryne 2-11
Junior A Football Championship. Group C, Round 2
Skryne defeated Simonstown in this Junior A Football Championship match played in Ratoath yesterday afternoon. The game was played in very difficult conditions with a strong breeze blowing from the Clubhouse corner towards the entrance from the road. Therefore it was very little advantage to either side and made scores hard to come by particularly at that scoreboard end.
Skryne began the game at speed and were quickly on top through an Allan Carty goal from the penalty spot after he himself was fouled in the big square having been put through by the impressive David Carroll after less than 2 minutes. John Morley and Carty again, added points to open up a five point gap before Simonstown got off the mark after 12 minutes of play with two points of their own. Skryne led by 1-4 to 0-2 at the half time whistle.

The trend continued in the second half with the Blues in control for most of the time although the scoreline does seem a little harsh on the Navan men who came much more into the game in this period. Skryne’s second goal from the hardworking Colm Craigie proved to be the last score of the game and put the icing on the cake for the Tara men.
Apart from the already mentioned Carroll, Declan Morley and Dermot Brennan stood out in a very solid rearguard who never looked in trouble at any stage of this game. The two David’s, McGoldrick and Lynch at midfield gave sufficient supply of ball to the forwards to grind out enough scores to win the match and all six worked as a team in this victory.
The only downside to this match was that the Referee who travelled from Dublin began the match with no umpires at all at the Road end goals. In fact the entire first half was played with just one (Skryne) umpire at that end of the field. Surely any Championship match and the players therein deserve more respect than that. Happily the disputed point/wide? in that first half had no bearing on the result.
