Skryne Too Good For Na Fianna
Na Fianna 1-06, Skryne 4-08
B League Division 1 – Round 2
This B League Div 1 match was moved from Enfield to Skryne because of pitch conditions. Home venue normally makes little difference in these games but probably helped Skryne yesterday as player numbers were low and reinforcements had to be called for at the last minute.
Both teams were obviously short a number of regulars and in Skryne’s case this stemmed from the fact that once again they were asked to play three adult matches in three days. As some players are eligible to play in all three games this arrangement is a little unfair and needs to looked at again.
The foundations for this ‘home’ win were laid in a superb first half display from Skryne and they led at the break by 2-6 to 1-1. The six forwards as a unit were completely on top with excellent displays from Paul McGoldrick and Frank Carty the lead could have been greater at half time. In defence and midfield the Blues also held the upper hand with Barry Clarke, Michael Doherty, Enda Byrne and David McGoldrick leading the way.
The second half was a different matter and Na Fianna came out fighting and were quickly back in the match scoring five points without reply to leave just a goal between the teams midway through this period. Skryne seemed to have lost their way and their shape as a result of the Na Fianna onslaught but a goal from Paddy Doherty who had moved to full forward restored some of their confidence. This was their first score of the second half and another goal from the penalty spot by Jason Fox put the game out of reach of Na Fianna.
