The Skryne Under 10 boys had a blitz in Dunganny today. This was Skryne’s first blitz of the year and we have had only two training sessions so far this year.
We have a strong panel of 23 under 10’s, some of who have came up from last years U8’s . When moving up to the next age group it is a bit of a change but the young guns played really well alongside the experienced U10’s who this year are in their second term.
Skryne had two teams involved in the blitzs with a panel of 9 a side per team. The first Skryne team had a match against Senchelstown which was no challenge for the Skryne lads. The second team played against Longwood who found it impossible to keep up with the speed and skills of Skryne. Both sides proved that they were well able to take points from any angle.
The second game for both teams was going to be a bit more difficult with Skryne vs Senchelstown B team and Skryne vs Dunshaughlin. In the end Skryne stepped up to the mark in both games and showed that doing well in the first game was no fluke. There was some great skill shown by all and the passing in both games was to be admired by any player actively playing Gaelic. With games lasting 20mins (10 mins per side) it wasn’t long till they were in their final game of the evening.
Both teams showed no sign of tiredness, and if anything really started to improve in their games. Skryne were up against Drumbaragh who gave the first teams one of the toughest games of the evening. Skryne played some great football and attacked really well. When you have some great forwards and defenders you always know these guys will give you more than 100%. In team 1 for Skryne was:
Jack Swan
David Rathborne
Sam Hawes
Paddy Wright
Kian Reddy
Alex Curran
Seán Keogh
Niall Moreland
Manager and mentors were David Keogh & Martin Curran
Well done to all the above and you have certainly represented Skryne well.
The second team for Skryne were up against Dunboyne in their last game of the day which was watched by the popular Seán Boylan. When Seán Boylan compliments your team and players, this really shows that the amount of great footballers that Skryne is able to produce is outstanding. Skryne were well on top of Dunboyne with some great saves made by our keeper. All the Skryne lads really rallied behind each other and didn’t seem to tire at all.
After the game Seán Boylan and Paddy Mulvaney posed with the lads for a group photo. For the benefit of the younger players amongst us, Seán is the former Meath manager who had great success with Meath winning All Ireland titles in 1987, 1988, 1996 & 1999. After 23 great years with Meath, Seán stepped down in 2005. Paddy Mulvany is a great former Skryne player from the winning Meath team of 1967. It is an honour to have two such great’s giving their knowledge of the game to the Youth of today. The 2nd team for Skryne is as follow’s:
Manager & Mentor, Cormac Grendon & Paddy Mulvany.
Thanks to all the parents for the support of the young lads today. You all should be really proud.
