The Skryne U14 boys are off to a great start in the 2012 Spring leagues.
In Division 1 Skryne remain unbeaten after three rounds against Simonstown, Wolfe Tones and Trim.
The first game was on the 25th of February away to Simonstown. Skryne were the victors with a score of 4-7 to Simonstown 1-7.
The second game was at home to Wolfe Tones on Saturday 3rd March. Wolfe Tones came up from div 2 for this year, and were keen to make an impression. They gave Skryne a good competitive game, but early in the second half Skryne started to pull away playing some good fast football and kicking over some great points. The final score on the day was Skryne 5-21 to Wolfe Tones 4-4.
Their 3rd game was away to Trim on Saturday 10th March. Trim beat Skryne last year in the under 13 league so this was always going to be an important game to get a result. Despite being down our regular mid fielder and half back, Skryne proved too strong for Trim. The lads that had their shooting boots on for the game were: D.Fox 1-2, J.Reddy 0-8, D.Campion 0-2, C Mc Loughlin 0-2. The final score for round 3 was Skryne 1-14 to Trim 1-1.
The next game is against Donaghmore/Ashbourne on Saturday 24th March at 4pm, in Skryne.
While in the Reserve League our U14B team are also on top having beaten Donaghmore/Ashbourne and Trim in the first two rounds.
In their first game, they beat Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-10 to 2-1 on Saturday 3rd March in Skryne. Playing 12 a side on a full pitch, Skryne used the space to better effect. Stout defending by Tommy Carpenter and long clearances by Michael Long at midfield helped Skryne forwards to notch up the scores for a well deserved victory. The team line up was S Dowling, S Byrne, D Hawes, T Carpenter, C O’Dowd, T Kelly, M Long(1-1), C Doherty(0-1), D Bissett(0-2), L Thrope(0-1), J Jordan, M Swan(0-2), E Quinn(0-3), E O’Brien.
In their second game Skryne beat Trim with a scoreline of 6-9 to 2-5 in a 13-a-side game. Skryne went 3 points ahead before Trim had their first attack. Lyod Carolan worked tirelessly up and down the field and was rewarded with a goal. Shane Dowling was solid in goals and his kickouts set up many a Skryne attack. Skryne did not have it all their own way and had to defend well to keep Trim at bay. There was some stout defending by Tommy Kelly to stop a couple of Trim attacks which could otherwise have ended up in the net. Up front Skryne forwards had the measure of their men but they seemed intent on goals rather than tipping over the points, and many chances were squandered by this. Jarlath Jordan showed well for the Skryne defence to clear the ball to him in the half forward line.
The team lined out as follows: S Dowling, D Hawes, S Byrne, T Kelly, C O’Dowd, T Carpenter, M Long(0-1), L Carolan(1-0), J Jordan, L Thorpe(1-4), D Bissett(1-2), M Swan(2-0), E Quinn(1-2).
The next game is against Duleek/Bellewstown on Saturday 24th March at 4pm, in Skryne.
