Opening round win for Skryne
Skryne 1-21 Simonstown 0-12
Reserve B League – Round 1
Played in ideal conditions this Special Reserve B league saw Skryne collect the points in the first round of the competition.
Exactly why the County Board saw the need for such a competition is not clear and no explanation has been given to the clubs as to what the outcome of the competition will be. Will there be promotion and if so to what division. If there isn’t then obviously the attraction of gaining promotion to a higher division, which is always sought after by the participants, seems to have been lost on the powers that be.
Be that as it may Skryne and Simonstown were glad to participate in the game which turned out to be quite an entertaining affair. Simonstown were first of the mark but Skryne went ahead on ten minutes thanks to a goal from John Quinn. Simonstown levelled matters by the twelfth minute but three points to one for Skryne saw the Tara men lead by a goal on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-4 with twenty minutes on the clock. Simonstown then hit a purple patch with six unanswered points between the twenty second and twenty seventh minute to put them three points ahead. Both teams then exchanged points to leave the half time score at Skryne 1-5, Simonstown 0-11.
It was expected that Simonstown would kick on in the second half and close out the match and it appeared that they would when they put over another on the thirty first minute. However that was as good as it got for them and they failed to score for the rest of the match. Meanwhile Skryne scored a total of sixteen points. The bulk of these was from Felim O’Rourke who posted eight to add to the one he got in the first half.
