Skryne 3-09 Kilbride 6-08

Under 15 Football League, Division 3 – Round 2

Skryne took on Kilbride in Round 2 of the Under 15 League this evening in Skryne. The weather was atrocious with misty rain falling persistently throughout the entire game making conditions underfoot very slippy and handling very difficult. Kilbride arrived with a panel of only 12 players available to play. Skryne had the full compliment available plus a few extras, but could only field 12 to match Kilbride.

Kilbride got off to a lightning start scoring 1-03 inside the first 4 minutes without a reply from Skryne as Skryne struggled to adjust to 12 a side football and the acres of space to be patrolled around the pitch. Skryne finally got off the mark on 10 minutes with a point from Colm Doherty. Doherty tagged on another a minute later as Skryne got a foothold in the game. Craig Nolan finished off a nice move with a point from the left hand side on 13 minutes. Skryne drew level on 15 minutes when a high ball into the Kilbride goalmouth from Colm Doherty found it’s way into the Kilbride net. Skryne were well on top at this stage and followed up the goal with further points from Craig Nolan and Jack Dardis. Goals from Liam Gill and Peter Swan stretched Skryne’s lead to 3-06 to 1-03 by the 23rd minute. Kilbride showed great spirit for the remainder of the half when they pinned Skryne back in their own half and scored 3-02 without a reply from Skryne. Skryne despite dominating for most of the half went in 2 points down at half-time on a scoreline of Skryne 3-06 Kilbride 4-05.

Kilbride had several chances for goals in the opening exchanges of the second half but were kept out by some good saves from Skryne’s netminder Liam Gill and some last ditch defending. Kilbride got the goal their efforts deserved after 3 minutes when they won a penalty after laying siege to the Skryne penalty area. The penalty was expertly slid into the corner of the net to the keeper’s left to increase Kilbride’s lead to 5 points. Kilbride tagged on another point to move 6 ahead. Craig Nolan pointed 2 quick frees for Skryne to cut the deficit to 4, but Kilbride were in no mood to let this game slip as they were driven on by their very impressive number 8. Skryne had some good performances at the back with Jack Dardis and Tommy Kelly impressing. However, Kilbride pulled away from Skryne as they dominated in most areas of the pitch and scored a further 1-02 without reply. Skryne got a consolation point in the end from Effe Carty to finish off the scoring.  The final score in a rain-soaked Skryne was Skryne 3-09 Kilbride 6-08.
