High Scoring match in Skryne
Skryne 2-17 Simonstown Gaels 4-13
Simonstown got the better of Skryne in this B League Div 4 game played in Skryne tonight in blustery conditions. For third team football this was as good as it gets and both teams kicked some brilliant scores. In fact Simonstown scored fifteen of their seventeen scores from play while Skryne had fourteen of their nineteen also from play. Not a bad return in difficult conditions because of the aforementioned gusty cross field strong breeze.
Skryne started the match much the better of the two teams and had five points on the board before Simonstown got off the mark. But as seems to be the norm for Skryne teams lately the concession of soft goals were their undoing and by half time had given away three of that variety and found themselves in arrears at the break by 3-4 to 0-11.
It was point for point early in the second half until yet another goal followed by 3 points gave the Gaels an eight point lead. Then the Blues rallied again and two goals, one from Allan Carty and a bullet late on from substitute Eddie Dunne gave them hope of pulling the game out of the fire. But Simonstown held on, overall probably shaded the game and therefore maybe deserved to win by 2 points.
Both teams had some ‘older’ players and a number of much younger lads on view which added excitement to the occasion and the entertainment value was as good as any match at the venue this season. Played in a great spirit this game provided the small crowd with 6 goals and 30 points shared between the sides. No matter what the standard is the ball has to be kicked between the uprights and these men certainly did that with aplomb.
